The Last Days of Rapa Nui
Art's Description
About this painting
A picture about ecological crises. Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, was deforested due to environmental mismanagament, trapping the inhabitants who had no materials to make boats.
A tower of clay-like figures climb to escape the rising sea, which in the spectacular sunset is the maroon colour of red wine. The submerged heads of the distinctive Moai statues indicate that we are looking at the remains of the now sunken Easter Island.
