Art's Description

About this painting
This picture is about the terrorist attacks of September the 11th 2001. An evolution of the techniques used in The Migraine Tree, the mood here is one of panic.
This is an emotionally powerful painting with many layers of interpretation. The main head, with it’s spiny protrusions appears almost like a medieval court jester, but the grasping spider legs reveal a more sinister mood. The acute angled background gives a body to the head, appearing like a flailing cloak. The resultant earthquake shakes the world above.
On the main head the right eye is the emerging skull of an evil foetus, and in the lower left corner of the painting the distinct front profile of a Boeing 747 is seen. The fuselage of this ghostly aircraft now an angel in a sky of stormy discontent.
High above the chaos, in the top right hand corner of the picture, in a distant sky of black and delicate silver paint, we see God, staring down and shaking his head at the scene below, while around him the souls of the dead whirl gently like feathers in a vortex of clean air.
Painted Sep 2006 to Feb 2007.
